The Wooing
Here we see Thade has had a real change of heart over the years. Maybe it was becoming a father, or maybe Thade has had a real change of heart and it would seem that is the case. Trying to persuade a cynical Pendragon round to the cause might prove a little tricky.
If you’ve enjoyed the comic so far, I post upcoming designs and sketches over on my Patreon page. Soon I’ll be uploading the previous issues in PDF format onto there. So why not help the creation of VANGUARD and throw a few quid/bucks into the pot?
Dan
“I’m planting a tree so my children can sit in its shade. I just need to water the tree with the blood of everyone else’s children. What’s the problem?”
Although I at least appreciate his honesty. Unfortunately, most of the worst tyrants in human history (Stalin, Mao, etc) were quite honest, true believers like this guy seems to be – it takes real belief to be willing to murder so many millions of people.
That famous quote by CS Lewis seems apt here:
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
Neil reminds me a little of the operative from Serenity only he doesn’t quite have the right of it.
“I’m not going to live there… There’s no place for me there, any more than there is for you. Malcolm, I’m a monster. What I do is evil. I have no illusions about it, but it must be done.”
Neil wants to be both the monster and live in the paradise that is free of monsters. His tactics will continue to spawn resentment which will give rise to resistance which will in turn justify his necessary evil.
