V12 – Pg19
MURDERER!
The Wolfshead goes into a rage, and as a result, it seems her appearance becomes more feral. Another ability that Herne has bestowed upon her? Or is it a curse of sorts?
Do you think what Woden and Jordana are doing here is right? Are they justified in what they have done so far and what Jordana might go on to do right now?
I mentioned a few weeks ago that I’d received some great news regarding the comic. Well, I applied to join the Spiderforest collective, asking if VANGUARD could join the group and hooray! it was accepted!
If you’re a new reader find this comic thorough Spiderforest, welcome!
I heartily recommend jumping all the way back to issue one and going form there OR you can jump back to issue ten, as that serves as a good ‘getting on point’ for the current arc.
BTW, Thanks for all the comments folks. I try my best to respond to as many as possible. I DO read them all and appreciate everyone of them. I’m going to be doing a poster/sketchbook give away in the next few weeks, so keep ’em peeled.
VANGUARD updates on Wednesdays and Fridays, BUT if you’re a Patreon of the comic, you’ll get a week’s worth of the comic ahead of the main site PLUS the daily sketch updates PLUS the chance to win an art commission.
What a great deal, eh? So why not help the creation of VANGUARD and throw a few quid/bucks into the pot?
Enjoy!
Dan

When emotions run high, the beast takes over and reason is lost. thus the wolfhead must find balance between them in order to do what is right. or something cryptic like that.
As to your question wether or not its right what they are doing? i dont think the situation is black and white enough to say wether its “right”or “wrong”. But personally I stand behind them. because rich asshats who think they can do whatever the hell they want just because “they’re better than the riff raff” need to be put down just as hard as any rabid animal.
Interesting. You’ll see how this plays out at the end of the issue. Some spin will be involved on the De Tonnerre side…
Man she’s fast at reloading that crossbow.
It helps that it’s not a full crossbow. The draw is enough to fling those bolts with enough of a driving impact to penetrate flesh but it wouldn’t do much against an armored target. The crossbow was designed for penetrating armored units at mid to close range. The bigger the crossbow the further you could be from your target but also the slower it is to load due to how hard it is to pull back that string into firing position.
Those smaller, modern crossbows are (so I’ve read) pretty easy is draw/operate. Violet is very proficient, having practiced with hers heavily.
So in all likelyhood, She doesn’t even need to swat away the bolts. She could probably intentionally take a bolt to the chest or block with her forehead, and it wouldn’t dent her armor.
Old Wolfshead is taking a slow stroll up the staircase, letting Violet take her (ineffective) shots.
I’m sure that’d shake anyone’s confidence.
So, is that little psycho about to be ripped to shreds?
Much as I’d like to see it, I’m not sure our good creators are ready to depict the violent death of a young girl, no matter how depraved and psychotic she may be. I suppose we’ll have to wait for the next page to see….
BWAHAHAHA! You’ll have to wait until the next page!
A nation that has different sets of laws for different sets of people is a nation without law. You pays your money, you takes your chances.
Well….this comic is… interesting.
I tried it a few months ago, got turned away by the art style in the early strips, which bugged me for some reason. Did so again, got lost around Issue Six due to the lack of a page-by-page archive. FINALLY got caught up entirely about a week ago.
The story….quite frankly, it’s very good, and a scarily realistic look at a future with superhumans. The world potentially could have used a bit more buildup beforehand, but it’s all good. It’s rare to see the bad guys win, and you’ve delivered that extremely well.
I assume Meta-Dyne Industries is one of the megacorps that resulted in the new world order, simply because of how it seemed oddly well-placed regarding the Alpha-Ones (don’t want to be more specific, afraid of spoiling it for new readers).
“Do you think what Woden and Jordana are doing here is right? Are they justified in what they have done so far and what Jordana might go on to do right now?”
When there is no law (publicly murdering someone with no consequences is functionally identical to that, as far as I’m concerned), “justice” gets very, very rough. Laws protect criminals (and those that LOOK criminal, which is the important part) at least as much as they protect the law-abiding.
The punishment for murder is death. In a better world, perhaps you could put a child into some kind of therapy/asylum/etc, and hope for rehabilitation. This is clearly no longer that world.
So yeah, kill the unrepentant multiple-murderer, and prevent the death of more innocent bystanders. Even if you think it’s wrong, it is, at this point in the story, obviously the LEAST wrong of the choices (as any other choice results in more murders by the psychotic little girl whose parents won’t stop her).
A murderer meets a murderer, such pleasing symmetry.
