You called it both “Myanmar” and “Burma” did you change your mind over it? Though in our world it has been called Myanmar for some 30+ years. I understand the difficulty in deciding. I would hope those Yanks who don’t give a shit about geography would use the search engine to find it on a map.
The American Empire has boots on the ground in 180 countries every day. Let the Brits do their share of the “white man’s burden” as they would want to. The US is way too busy. NATO needs to haul its own weight for the USA.
Countries, especially not powerful countries like Britain, cannot do whatever they like. I’m pretty sure other countries would be outraged if any power took military forces that close to their borders, and the fact that it’s CHINA that borders Burma to the north just makes it even more unfeasible.
Oh sure, this would be a massive international incident if they got caught. The story is set a little further into the future and geopolitics is a little more tumultuous. They’re operating under a ‘get it done-style mentality and deal with the political ramifications later.

Two words.
International. Incident.
