In the original version of this sequence, Guy met with an actual human being. Admittedly, he was haggard, over worked, and poorly trained, but a human nevertheless. But the more I thought about the direction we’re headed as a society, the more I thought that Guy would not get that much help.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!
Yes, Free Comic Book Day day is here! (sort of) The super awesome team at the Collective of Heroes has put together a bumper-sized free comic for the occasion. Click the image above to go to the download page at Drivethru Comics
In the 1930s Winston Churchill famously remarked in the House of Commons during an exchange with the Prime Minister that he was confident history would find Baldwin wrong, “because I shall write that history“.
If you are a long time reader of Vanguard you may have noticed that the last few pages detailing their final battle don’t quite jibe with what you remember. (And if you’re not a long time reader, go back and read it! It’s really good.)
We live in interesting times. On one hand we live in a world where everyone has a cellphone camera, not to mention surveillance cameras, traffic cameras, and police body cameras. But simultaneously we live in a world of Photoshop, video editing, and CGI.
My wife and I were watching a television show the other day where, as a prank, they made a video in which they superimposed a famous person’s head on a different body (in fetish gear). Now, it wasn’t perfect, but they weren’t trying to be perfect. They were just goofing around. But it was really close. Close enough to make you nervous.
There’s a great movie from 1997 called, “Wag the Dog” where a film crew is hired to create a fake war to distract the public from a Presidential sex scandal. The film opened one month before the Monica Lewinski scandal broke.

FREE COMIC BOOK DAY APPROACHES!
Yes, Free Comic Book Day is a mere 10 days away and the super awesome team at the Collective of Heroes has put together a bumper-sized free comic for the occasion. I’ll pimp out the links once it goes up online.
Also, Avengers:Age Of Ultron has finally arrived. I’ll be seeing it on Saturday. I have a few friends who have seen advance screenings and they have been saying it is awesome. I AM VERY EXCITE!. From the clips/trailers, I think a World War Hulk could well be on the cards… fingers crossed.
Are you seeing the film this weekend? What are you’re thoughts on it?
Yup, the Vanguard were actually killed by Daedalus…

People have been discussing Jordana and Nara in the comments. Now we have seen Jordana once before in the first series. As to how old she is, let’s just say that in her first appearance, a lot of people assumed it was a live video of her when it was actually a, “home movie” so to speak. So she was already three years old when the events in the first series took place even though she appeared much younger.
You’ll have to wait to learn more about her friend Nara…
NEWS:
VANGUARD got through to to round three of the March Webcomic Madness March Webcomic Madness, now called April Armageddon. It’s going to be tough to get through this next round, so all votes are needed! – VOTE VANGUARD!
That blow in panel three looks a little more forceful than perhaps Gary had suggested in the script. I imagine a blow like that would probably kill someone.
It looks like VANGUARD made it through to round three. Once the finally tally is up, we’ll know for certain. If our opponent bought votes though… we could be sunk.
As a reader commented a page or two ago, Jordana’s super strength is kinda highlighted when she hurls a spear straight through a boar. She’s gonna be one strong young lady to be able to do that!
Gary’s Blog Post:
Some people have been asking if there really are wild boar in England.
It’s a great question. Wild boar did go extinct in Britain around the 13th century. However, according to LINK they found that circa 1998 there were two populations of wild boar living free in Britain. The interesting fact is that these wild boar are the result of farmed wild boar escaping and reestablishing wild populations! So considering that this story is based 15 years from now, and that England is considerably more rural, I think we will find plenty of wild boar running about.
It’s amazing what happens when a species is reintroduced. The whole ecosystem is affected. For an interesting read check out this article on the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone National Park. Spoiler Alert: they change the course of rivers!
Thanks for reading! GOOD NEWS!
We made it through to round two! We sorely need those votes to get to round three though. If you haven’t done so already, please vote VANGUARD. Thank you in advance!
Looks like Jordana is packing some Metahuman genetics… and these gamekeepers are about to learn the hard way not to mess with someone that does!
Aborted panel two.
Got to the point of inking this and plopping it onto the page, when I realised it looked a little pedestrian. That said, I now have no panels on the page that show the characters legs fully in shot. Something I try to avoid.
I’ve been listening to the Empire Of Geek podcast since it started. The gang chat about… well, everything geeky. Comics, films, etc. I’d recommend you have a listen.
While I’m recommending stuff, I know of (at least two) webcomics that I think are amusing and don’t get the readership they deserve. The first is by Edward Gee and is called Rabbitual Offender and the second is by Mike Bromage and is called Dust Piggies. Go read!
The boar circles round to make mincemeat of our red haired heroine! Will Jordana be able to take down the huge beast down with just a spear? Dun-dun-dah!
