V09 – Pg37
Readers asked ‘what happened to Luke/Spitfire?’ We last saw him, he was being launched skyward by Maxtreme.
Who finds him? John Hatcher. He was last seen in issue eight. The Vanguard Government Liaison fled the carnage at Downing Street with Godvia’s niece.
So it looks like the three of them are safe, at least…

Ok, Luke’s still alive it seems. Luke is tough as fuck. No normal person, or even most of the other people on his team, would have survived that fall.
I expected him to fly away, not tank the fall. Maybe he was slowing his fall somewhat? He still left a hell of a dent. It seems this page upgrades him from glass cannon to straight up flying artillery because he’s clearly more durable than he should be if he’s still awake enough to groan. Forget “hope he lives”, the remaining Vanguard is gonna NEED this guy because he’s got grade-A badass potential (dodged a flash turret, burned an alpha, flight, durability/regeneration). He also has really good luck, because he fell in front of one of the few people guaranteed to help him.
Indeed. Not too many people would be willing to stick their neck out and help. After the hit, I imagine most people would have legged it! Me included!
Glad to see Luke alive. Also, his arms look surprisingly non-broken. Couple that together with him being able to survive that fall makes you wonder wether some kind of regenerative powers are in play. Not to mention the difference between skin damage and clothing damage.
I may be overthinking things though, but something has to be happening with his body, after all cars don’t put out steam when damaged.
He seems to be, or have the makings of, a very power metahuman…
I wonder if the niece is the she Herne spoke off….
That could be the case! You’ll have to wait and see…
Luke! Long time no see!
Although somewhat disturbing if I look at the newest piece of fanart you’re showing on the frontpage. XD
And those arms do not necessarily look unbroken to me. Especially not the right one.
Well MaX did some crushing/twisting motion, so the bones might not actually be puncturing the skin. We can see from this though that Luke is a lot tough than initially thought.
Great page
Thank you!
Oh god. Seeing how this comic has gone so far………..OH FUCK, you’re not going to kill a baby now too are you?
I will not be killing a baby in this comic!
Babies now have ultimate plot armor!
Ha ha! I said THIS comic… it might happen in the next one 😉
did he shrink? his uniform doesn’t look as snug. if he is rapid healing that’s fairly calorie/nutrient intensive. I’m remember once hearing the theory that Since he can get drunk, without massive effort, that Wolverine drank beer as a source of easily absorbable calories to fuel his healing factor
Ah, you’ll have to blame that on the (bad) art. He’s not supposed to have shrunk at all 😉
I’m sure Spitefire would probably say otherwise at the moment, but it’s pretty lucky that he landed on that car. glass and metal aside, the crumple zones might had just saved his life, the concrete around him has a few tons standing behind it and a lot less give. The glass and (potential) survival probably hurts a lot more though, small, cruel mercies I guess.
We don’t yet know quite how tough Luke is, but the fall on the car roof sure did him a favour. Could he have taken a hit on the floor? We’ll see…
