Hooray! Here comes Gradlon to save the day! His change of heart and subseqent intervention comes along just in the nick of time, for Woden at least! I drew Die-Blood’s pose in panel four roughly 5-6 times… and it still doesn’t look right.
We’re not too far away from the end of this issue. Things will be very different after it. Trust me.
I was SUPER happy to get to draw Pendragon in Tenzin’s armour from the awesome post-apoc comic, The Demon Archives. It’s written by a talented chap called Daniel Sharp and is illustrated by a host of (very talented) artists.

And I was also extremely pleased and flattered to receive this excellent piece of Halloween costume tom-foolery from Mike Hearn, creator of the webcomic Walter The Wicked. Pop over and say hello!

COMPETITION!
I’ll be send out THREE packs of signed, limited edition prints to give away? How does one enter? Just leave a comment below.
Winners will be picked at random and announced on next Wednesday’s update.
Akk, Woden, you got a little too close to our boy Die-Blood, who’s a close quarters kinda guy. The team are dropping like flies… and the World kinda needs every hero it can get!
*EDIT – I’ve amended this page to Woden saying ‘Ach, ma belly’ after some confusion if Woden hand suffered a hand or an abdominal injury. Would anyone ever say this? Probably not, but hey, it’s serves the purpose.
I’ll be down at the London MCM Comic Expo this weekend, drawing for Reynard City. We’ll be at stand CR8 and CR9 there’s loads of free stuff to be had!
Last Wednesday evening, I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by Jack and Dan over on the Intercomics Podcast. Wanna listen to me blather on like an idiot about Vanguard and webcomics/comics in general? Check this out!
Gotta give props to Gary for the bird attack on this page. All the bird species pictured can be found in the UK – A Harris hawk, seagull, wood piegon, raven, duck and a crow. I imagine their combined assault on a single individual would do considerable damage.
So, Die-Blood is out from under Godiva’s control and is PISSED… and MaXia doesn’t look too great either!
On Wednesday evening, I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by Jack and Dan over on the Intercomics Podcast. It’s yet to go live, but will let you know when it’s up. We discussed a bit of my artistic background, my process of writing amongst a host of other topics.
MaXia is still torn as to if what’s shes doing is right or not, hence the pause before striking Woden, which would kill him in one blow.
Die-Blood carves up MaXia – As you can see, Die-Blood didn’t actually draw any blood, as the blades didn’t pierce the skin. I imagined the two strikes to be akin to being stroked with two white hot pieces of metal. Yeah, that’ll sting a little.
Someone commented on why Godiva didn’t use her powers to take control of MaX. It’s a good question. First off, it would totally unbalance power in the world in Vanguard, not just in this fight, so I couldn’t let that happen. When I started writing this comic, I wanted the Alpha-Ones to be virtually unbeatable, unless faced with Meta-Human opposition who could physically attack them, yet not being susceptible to mental/psionic domination.
First off, let me address some of the comments made on the previous page. In regards story/pacing, yep it’s moving at breakneck speed. There will be a slow down and a chance to flesh out characters. I’m relatively new to webcomics, well, writing them at least. I’ve still got a lot to learn but as with my artwork, I think one can see an improvement since issue one.
Now, today’s page.
Up through the atmosphere. Up where the air is clear
KingSword still has some fight left in him! You go, man!
Can you spare a moment to upvote this page on Reddit? It’s a good way to reach potential readers – Thanks in advance!
Vanguard usually updates twice a week (Wednesday and Friday), but it’s only updating once a week for the next few weeks. I’m currently drawing pages over at Reynard City and I only have a TWO more to do before I’m done. Hooray!
I do love writing these characters. They are absolute, self centered jerks. Notice X-Bow would consider ‘dating’ Die-Blood as long as it boosted her media profile. That’s all she care for… and as always, Die-Blood is a cretinous leech.
Join us next week, as Team Xtreme go toe-to-toe with the Vanguard!
So now the Vanguard face not only the elite Hollow Men but Team Xtreme, headed by now one of the most powerful Meta-Humans on the planet. Things look bleak.
The condition affecting Kingsword, and now we learn every other Alpha level Metahuman, appears to have sinister origins… was it engineered? Also, where’s this inhaler MaX’s chugging on come from? It was first referenced back in issue seven.
Had a nightmare mid-week… I saved over page ten! Akk! Had to re-do it pretty much from scratch. That kinda killed Wednesday’s update. Apologies!
This page was a little rushed. Why? Well, here in Britain, we are getting some hit by some really heavy wet weather… for weeks now. The train line which I use to get to work suffered a landslide, which has changed my commute into five hour daily ordeal 🙁
This has left me with very little time to finish this on up. Anyway, onwards and upwards!
