V09 – Pg16
A WEDNESDAY UPDATE!
Yes, we’re back to two pages a week, starting from today.
In regards to today’s page, I didn’t really think any text/sound effects were necessary to convey the struggle going on between these two titans. It took me a fair while to get this page done, yet it can be ‘read’ at a glance – YAY COMICS!
I’ve posted this page on Reddit. If you so wish, please feel free to give it an upvote. Thank you!

…cleaned his clock.
It feels like I should have seen this coming as soon as a super battle in London started.
Anyway, Kingsword, remeber your training! Always aim for the balls!
If that doesn’t work, hit him in the eye, then he could at least claim he saw it coming.
A kick in the superballs would still hurt, right?
Only found this comic yesterday – spent half the night reading it! Now wanting more. There seems to be a tradition in UK based meta-human fiction for dark, dystopian stories, I’m thinking of Moore’s Miracleman or Morrison’s Zenith (with a nod towards Moore again for Watchmen even though this is not set primarily in the UK) Vanguard is a welcome and worthy addition to this genre.
Hello Brian! Glad you found the comic and are enjoying it. Yeah, the UK based superhero stuff has had a dark slant, the ones you mentioned being great examples. I’ve always enjoyed the darker take and when I first started working on this comic, I didn’t want to just do another super powered teen story. Nothing wrong with them, but I figured that angle had been covered in other web comics. This comic has a few more surprises up it’s sleeve. It’ll be interesting to see the reaction from the readership.
I agree with Brian. This is definitely up there with Zenith. The spin on a semi-realistic world that the supers just happen to live in, and the effect that having super powers can have on it’s surroundings is a welcome change compared to how Marvel ‘New York’ can somehow lose whole buildings or city blocks and somehow never really seems to last beyond that current month’s story. Just looking at DC’s recent Superman The Man of Steel movie made me cringe too. Metropolis looked like Escape From New York prior to the credits rolling. I’m all for the big super fights, but damn, wouldn’t that have displaced the whole population? Not sure exactly how warmly received Superman would be in that city despite defending Earth from his fellow Kryptonians.
I grew up reading 2000AD and the like and it’s the influence can definitely be felt within the story. Being favorably compared with Zenith makes me a happy man 🙂 – Thank you!
I’m not a fan (at all) of Man of Steel. As you’ve mentioned, I think the people of Earth would actually despise/fear Supes… especially after that run in with the army guy at the end.
Someones going down
Indeed! 🙂
All I hope for is the death of Max. If that is out at least the removal of an eye to remind him that he screwed with the wrong people.
He’ll get his comeuppance…
